Anna & Sergio: Castle Hluboka

From Russia with Love: a Castle Hluboka luxury wedding in the Czech Republic!

This is one of those unforgettable weddings: full of wonderful emotions, many tears, lots of laughter and a long evening of dancing and partying… Anna & Sergio traveled down from Russia to have their very intimate dream wedding at one of Europe’s most beautiful castles – the historic Castle Hluboka. Or as we call it here Castle Hluboka nad Vltavou. The castle situation several hours south of Prague is one of Czechia’s most beautifully preserved and iconic fairy tale castles – picture perfect for our couple who dreamed of such a fairy tale wedding.

The day started off with Anna being pampered with her mother & sisters attending to her every needs. While Sergio, the very serious business man was still conducting business as he was getting prepared and doted over by his always smiling mother.

Though the weather started off quite nice, it did turn quite gray and seemingly threatened to rain, but luckily it did not. The only issue, keeping the many tourists (with their prying lenses) away from out couple during their wedding ceremony which took place outside overlooking the castle down below.

And then, it was time to marry…

As a trained photojournalist I always strive to capture those real moments that are shared between people – especially on their wedding day. Another such beautiful moment was Anna tearing up standing underneath a gorgeous floral arch and Sergio tearing up as well as he gently and very sweetly wiped away her tears. After they exchanged their ‘I do’s’ it was time for the official announcement of Mr & Mrs. It was quite beautiful. After some group pictures, champagne toasts and watching the video guy leading them around – I simply asked if they wanted to get away from everyone and for a few moments to simply enjoy the moment.

Truth be told, those few moments when a couple spend time with each other and not being told how to pose and be art directed I feel are very important. As many wedding days become overly art directed it just seems like the right thing to do to allow them some time to each other – after all it is their wedding day.

No sooner did these two arrive at a nice spot (without both the video guy and myself) Sergio’s phone rang and he was back to being the businessman. Anna who was all smiles took it in stride and one of my favorite images is Sergio looking away (trying to hide the phone call) as Anna smiled with the ‘business as usual’ look. But Sergio made it up to her a few moments later and those moments captured here are fantastic.

After a few more drinks it was time to drive back to Prague (Maybach of course) and have a very small photo session. As Anna spent most of her day being art directed she asked me ‘if it was my wedding day where would I wish to go for one very special picture?’ Naturally I knew just the place and we went straight there.

Just as we arrived something beautiful happened, the sun finally came out and broke the dull grey sky and as it did the energy level of these two rose just as much leading to some impromptu dances and many smiles and hugs of happiness. Though we traveled to their wedding dinner & reception (a very lavish gala was ordered for the evening) one of my favorite images of these two – just being themselves and enjoying the view overlooking Prague as a Golden colored sunlight filtered through the trees and lighting up their smiles.

Sometimes the best images are those that are totally off script and unplanned such as these two dancing as the sun flared around them above Prague on that gorgeous summer day.

Olga & Alexei traveled down from Russia – a country whose history and people I have always enjoyed, to have their elopement wedding in the Czech Republic.

They wanted something very simple with their wedding, no fanfare, no fuss, no worries, just the two of them at one of the most beautiful castles in Europe: Castle Hluboka nad Vlatavou. It was clearly one of those stunning fall days that we photographers absolutely crave: the beautiful autumn light, the colors of the foliage, and especially later the warmth of the late golden setting sun. To be honest, getting out of Prague and traveling to this magnificent castle is always quite special for me.

One thing I enjoyed about Olga & Alexei – how easy going they were. Capturing them experiencing this wonderful day was really fantastic and I doubt they will ever forget that wonderful day and especially the feelings they had. The only way we could have topped this session off was to have a final series of portraits of them captured in Prague – so after the drive back we did just that. And the last few hours was on me – as they deserved it.

Castle Konopiste wedding / Oksana & Vladislav wedding day photography

Oksana & Vladislav chose the stunning Konopiste Castle for their destination wedding in Prague. Originally from Russia, they wanted a special wedding for their family & friends and this stunning castle in the Czech countryside did not disappoint.

The castle was built about 7 centuries ago in a French Gothic style and has a stunning collection of tapestries, furniture, hunting memorabilia and of course truly stunning details that set this castle apart from the many others. Konopiste also served as the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir to the Austrian-Hungarian throne. I was told that he bullet that killed him is actually held their in the collection. Konopiste has also served in several famous films such as The Illusionist and to be able to shoot inside in some of its storied halls and rooms are a real treat.

After their wedding ceremony at the castle was over, we were given a private tour of the many stunning rooms and we were allowed to use a few of these rooms for a very quick portrait session. Obviously setting up lights and moving around furniture is a bit difficult so we kept it very simple under the incredible frescoes and chandeliers. Afterwards a few rounds of drinks and sweets with close family & friends on the castle grounds was in order before heading off to Prague.

Oksana & Vladislav were not too keen on the main tourists spots so we instead headed up to another magnificent castle: Prague Castle. I personally think for most couples that simply want to enjoy their first time together as husband and wife and without the large crowds this is always a wonderful idea. Oksana & Vladislav very much enjoyed the more laid back feeling and the calm atmosphere overlooking the bustling city below. After visiting many of the wonderful locations at the castle and the gardens we walked down and across to our last location of the day: the Astronomical Clock. For many couples having one last kiss under this historical clock is important and lets face it – it is also a great way to end our part of the portrait session as well.

All in all, a very peaceful, relaxed and truly beautiful summer day with one of our favorite couples from Russia: Oksana & Vladislav.

Suki & Steven traveled over from Hong Kong to marry at the stunning Castle Hluobka outside of Prague. With close family members and friends in attendance it was a beautiful candle lit ceremony. Though the weather was freezing that did not stop them from having a wonderful time exploring the castle grounds. But not to be outdone, they also opted to have a truly stunning all day portrait session in Prague. What I really enjoy about Suki & Steven was how laid back and easy going they were.

To Suki & Steven, you two are truly wonderful people. I very much wish you much happiness, prosperity and success in you new lives together as husband and wife.

Chateau Liblice wedding / Jana & Kym wedding photos

{Prague Wedding Photographers} Jana & Kym – beautiful Chateau Liblice wedding!

I really enjoyed being a part of Jana & Kym’s wedding as they are two very laid back people (must be an Australian thing?). In addition, their families and friends were great fun to be around.

When you travel from Australia to have your wedding in the Czech Republic there are of course many places you can exchange your vows, but their choice of Liblice was simply spot on. The Chateau is located outside of Prague in the beautiful Czech countryside and its seclusion was a paradise for the children who ruled its grounds.

As Jana originally hails from the CZ, it was a lot of fun as Kym’s family experienced a truly beautiful Czech Wedding and its accompanied traditions.

The one thing I will always remember about their wedding day: the picture perfect late evening portrait session we captured on their behalf. The setting sun was incredible as its last rays hit the back of the castle as Jana & Kym enjoyed their first sunset together as husband and wife. In a word: krásný!

To Jana & Kym, I very much enjoyed meeting the two of you as well as being a small part of your wedding day. I wish you both much love, happiness and future success together as husband and wife. Thank you very much for allowing me to bring Sherri along ; )

St. Nicholas Church wedding Prague / Sandy & Jimmy wedding photography

What a great couple! Sandy & Jimmy traveled over from Hong Kong to marry in Prague. But before we were to photograph their wedding we spent part of our day at Castle Hluboka nad Vltavou. This is a truly stunning castle for a portrait session as well as simply exploring the beautiful grounds before sunset. Afterwards we headed to Prague for one last evening out fit – and to say that Sandy looked stunning in her dress is an understatement.

The next day it was time to marry at the beautiful St. Nicholas Church in the heart of Old Town Square. With family members and friends in attendance it was a beautiful ceremony as the organist performed during the wedding vows.

Afterwards it was simply time to relax, enjoy a coffee and a cake or two at a local cafe.

I always enjoy having fun with our couples and Sandy & Jimmy are simply wonderful. They really enjoy their time together and watching them explore the grounds of the castle or simply showing them around Prague (and of course there are always other photographers who must stop and take a picture of them) was a blast. We just had fun…

So a great start to the New Year (of the horse) with a great couple and a truly beautiful love story of their time here in the Czech Republic. Congratulations again to Sandy & Jimmy! It was a real pleasure and honor to get to know you two as well as capturing these beautiful mementos of your time with us.

Prague Clementinum wedding / Chateau Dobris / Alchymist / Maria & Nikolai wedding

Luxury wedding in Prague at the Clementinum and celebrations at Chateau Dobris and the Alchemyst!

Congratulations to our latest couple Maria & Nikolai who hat an incredible two day luxury wedding here in Prague with one of the most incredible venues to marry in: the Clementinum. This is not only a world renown historical site, but also formerly the home of the Czech National Library and some of it’s collections are not only priceless but an incredible backdrop for a portrait session.

Their choice of the sumptuous Baroque chapel is a rarity here for weddings as it is very exclusive. The chapel is not far from the Charles Bridge so having a wedding ceremony here in tranquil surroundings add up for a fabulous place for wedding photos. Later after we explored the narrow windings streets, the beautiful riverside, the Charles Bridge and of course some of the sites of this stunning city we headed to the Alchymist Grand Hotel which is in a magnificent Baroque house “Dům u Ježíška”, dating from the 16th century. The Alchymist is where luxury meets old world charm in a fusion that is all of its own. So having a private dinner with a private show of ballerinas, opera stars and wonderful poetry was a fitting ending to an incredible day.

But not to be outdone, day two took place at the Chateau Dobris outside of Prague. The entire castle grounds was reserved for the evenings festivities complete with performers from the Cirque du Soleil as well as pop stars, ballet dancers, fire walkers and of course capped off with an incredible fireworks show that went on and on. A truly incredible wedding experience for everyone who was lucky enough to participate.

But no more talking, lets look at what can only be described as one of the most beautiful weddings and a truly fabulous, wonderful and nice couple who really went all out for their intimate family & friends for a true luxury destination wedding in Prague. Enjoy!
