Every destination couple worries about the weather. When you’re flying from Hong Kong, Singapore, Texas, or further with limited time, “we’ll reschedule” isn’t an option.
I specialize in turning rain, night, and snow into cinematic, emotional portraits you’ll treasure forever.
Rain

Justine & Robinson (Hong Kong)
One-day pre-wedding session in pouring rain.
We started at 6 AM on Charles Bridge in heavy rain. An hour later, we were dry after the sun came out. What could have been a disaster became a beautiful, atmospheric collection across Prague.
Night & Rain

Český Krumlov Castle Wedding
Torrential rain after the ceremony.
Instead of stopping, we embraced the downpour. The result was pure cinematic drama in one of the most beautiful settings in Czechia.
Embracing the Unexpected

Brittnie & Andres (Texas)
Gothic anniversary session on Charles Bridge.
They wanted dramatic black attire and moody lighting. Heavy rain arrived and elevated everything. The wet cobblestones, dramatic lighting, and iconic bridge created unforgettable images.
The rain didn’t ruin the night — it became the highlight.

Snow

Helen & CY (Hong Kong)
Late January — Heavy snowfall all day.
Prague delivered non-stop snow. We shot along the Vltava River, Hanavský Pavilion, and Charles Bridge. They never complained, and this image was printed as a large 4×3-foot framed canvas print for their wedding.

Winter Portrait Sessions FAQ
Planning a magical winter portrait session in Czechia? Whether you’re dreaming of snowy portraits on Charles Bridge or romantic photos at Hluboká Castle, these frequently asked questions will help you prepare for an unforgettable experience. Below you’ll find everything you need to know about locations, timing, what to expect, and how to dress for the cold.
FAQ
Can you photograph winter sessions outside of Prague?
Yes. I regularly travel for winter portrait sessions across Czechia. Popular locations include the fairy-tale town of Český Krumlov and the stunning Hluboká Castle. Hluboká in winter, with its snow-covered towers and park, creates truly magical backdrops.
What is the best time for a winter portrait session in Czechia?
January and February are my top recommendations. These months offer the highest chance of beautiful snow while avoiding the busiest Christmas period. While I cannot guarantee snow, this timeframe has consistently delivered the most successful winter sessions for my clients.
Why choose a winter portrait session in Europe?
For couples from Asia, a snowy European winter backdrop is a rare and romantic experience. Prague’s historic architecture, combined with snow, creates cinematic portraits that stand out. While Hallstatt (Austria) is popular, it can feel limited after a short time. Prague, Český Krumlov, and Hluboká Castle provide endless variety and iconic settings.
What are your preferred locations for winter portraits?
My ranking for winter sessions:
- Prague — Iconic Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, and Prague Castle views.
- Hluboká Castle — Elegant, romantic, and often less crowded.
- Český Krumlov — Fairy-tale medieval town with a beautiful castle.
Many couples book a two-day session: one day exploring Český Krumlov + Hluboká Castle, followed by a full day in Prague.
What does a typical winter portrait session look like?
Every session is customized to your vision. Here’s how a typical two-day winter session usually unfolds:
- Day 1 in Prague: Pre-sunrise riverside shots with glowing gas lamps, followed by Charles Bridge at the end of the Blue Hour. We then explore the bridge, Old Town Square (short walk), and later the Prague Castle viewpoints or grounds.
- Day 2: Travel to Český Krumlov for town and castle portraits, lunch, then Hluboká Castle for golden hour and Blue Hour images and a return to Prague.
All central Prague locations are walkable. A comfortable van can be arranged for those who prefer less walking.
What should we wear for a winter portrait session?
Dressing properly is essential for comfort in the cold.
Key recommendations:
- Wear long underwear (thermal base layers) underneath your outfits — this is especially important for brides wearing wedding dresses.
- Bring a very heavy, warm coat that you can take off quickly when we’re ready to shoot. This keeps you warm between setups.
- Couples from Asia often bring disposable hand warmers (sometimes called “warm pockets” — the pads that activate when broken). These are excellent for pockets or inside gloves. Note that they can be difficult to find in Europe, so bringing them from home is helpful. Please check your airline’s current rules regarding these heat packets in carry-on or checked luggage.
I always prioritize your comfort so we can focus on creating beautiful images even in freezing temperatures.
How far in advance should we book a winter portrait session?
I recommend booking as early as possible, especially for late January and February dates. Last-minute bookings are possible if my schedule allows.
What if there is no snow?
I cannot guarantee snow, but it is quite common in Czechia during January and February. This is why I generally do not recommend December for classic snowy winter portraits in Prague. Even without heavy snow, the frosty winter atmosphere still produces beautiful results.
What are your booking terms?
A 50% retainer is required at the time of booking to secure your date. The remaining balance is due on the day of the session. Any travel or accommodation costs are discussed and agreed upon upfront.
